Peel The Band-Aids–Quick(ly)!

Another post that did not get made back on September 24–not sure how.

This doodle is rather corny–as are many of my doodles–but it really does depict that state of our hearts and how we’d rather live with hearts and lives “patched up” rather than whole and healed and prepared to be useful to God.  The presence of Band-aid’s on the heart make it obvious to us there is an injury–we acknowledge the problem but don’t really want it resolved or healed.  In fact, we often take pride in the injuries–hiding behind them–it’s who we are.  But God will not leave us in that state.  He’ll keep sending the Spirit to lift the band-aid, but we are responsible for peeling it off and exposing it to the fresh air of healing only He can bring.  Peeling band-aids off can hurt us for a short time but not peeling them off hurts not just us but others in our lives and ultimately our usefulness to God.

Never disregard a conviction that the Holy Spirit brings to you.  If it is important enough for the Spirit of God to bring it to your mind, it is the very thing He is detecting in you.  You were looking for some big thing to give up, while God is telling you of some tiny thing that must go.  But behind that tiny thing lies the stronghold of obstinacy, and you say, “I will not give up my right to myself”–the very thing that God intends you to give up if you are to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.  —Oswald Chambers

Ouch--now that's going to hurt (your pride).

  1. “…not peeling them off hurts not just us but others in our lives and ultimately our usefulness to God.” Terrific quote. It’s not just about ME! My healing and health is about God and others foremost. Now, if I can just get that through my head (oh! And heart!)
