Much More

Today’s doodle is actually last years doodle and poem. I relate to our friend Moses–especially when it applies to my art career. I’ve shared in the past that when I was young I planned to be either a professional pianist or an artist when I grew up.  Well, here I am in my mid-50’s finally starting my professional career in art. And yes, when the time came when it was placed back on my heart to pursue, I really had no interest to do it–it’s not an easy career to have but I can’t stop doing it.  Last year in particular was a difficult time and added to it all I felt compelled to “doodle” daily–which became my time of great personal growth.  This quote from Oswald Chambers is the story of my life, and I dare say, all the lives of anyone who have felt a calling from God.

We may have the vision of God and a very clear understanding of what God wants, and yet when we start to do it, there comes to us something equivalent to Moses’ forty years in the wilderness. It’s as if God had ignored the entire thing, and when we are thoroughly discouraged, He comes back and revives His call to us. And then we begin to tremble and say, “Who am I that I should go . . . ?”  We must learn that God’s great stride is summed up in these words–“I AM WHO I AM .  . . Has sent you” (Exodus 3:14). . . If you are going through a time of discouragement, there is a time of great personal growth ahead.

This was the poem and doodle I did in response. I’m not a poet but this just seemed to flow out of me and seemed to be the only way I could “illustrate” what this devotional meant to me. I’ll type it out as well in case it’s hard to read.
MUCH MORE

In your youth you will see what you will be, so you force what is before.

You trip and you fall, discouraged you stall, saying, “Maybe that’s not what I’m for.”

Finally, down on your knees you say with a plea, “Really, . . . I can’t take much more!”

“Success isn’t free, it comes with debris,” He says as you lay on the floor.

“You must be freed from the need to succeed–stop trying to be in control.”

“Once you admit that you must surrender you gift, your vision I will restore ”

“With me as your source I’ll change your course, without “YOU” WE will be MUCH MORE!
