Sacred/Secular–It’s All the Same to God

I think I’ve shared this before, but a pivotal part of my Christian experience was when I discovered that every experience is sacred, every day is sacred and everywhere you are is sacred because Jesus fills it all.  He is found in it all because He is abiding in you if you let Him–that means, everything is sacred.

Simply put, "Jesus, knowing . . . that He had come from God and was going to God, (sacred) . . . took a towel . . . and began to wash the disciples' feet . . . (secular)." (John 13:3-5) It's all one and the same.

Simply put, “Jesus, knowing . . . that He had come from God and was going to God, (sacred) . . . took a towel . . . and began to wash the disciples’ feet . . . (secular).” (John 13:3-5) It’s all one and the same.

The important difference is this, either we are glorifying God/Jesus in our experiences/day/location or we are glorifying ourselves.  Do we feel pretty special because we did something kind or are we so full of Jesus that we didn’t even realize we did something kind, we just were.  Do we feel we are closer to God on a certain day or can we feel equally close, equally empowered every day.  If God is only available for our rest and strength on one day–who fills the other days?  The point of our life and existence is . . . that we may know Him . . . every day!

Oswald Chambers puts it like this:

Do I know Him where I am today?  If not, I am failing Him.  I am not here for self-realization, but to know Jesus Christ. . . . His aim (the spiritual Christian’s) is to achieve the realization of Jesus Christ in every set of circumstances.

Something to think about–
