Gesthemane–Where The Victory Was Won!

I’m not sure if everyone who reads my blog realizes that I am doodling through My Utmost For His Highest.  It doesn’t perfectly coincide with Easter–HE IS RISEN!  I’m just now in Gethsemane, so please bear with me. 4_5_15_Gethsemane_#177

Often I think of the cross as being the real battle ground, because it seems like dying on a cross is so much more violent and pain-filled.  However, from scriptures it appears that Gethsemane is where Jesus met with the most agony–the final battle with Satan.  Oswald Chambers puts it this way,

We can never fully comprehend Christ’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, but at least we don’t have to misunderstand it.  It is the agony of God and man in one Person, coming face to face with sin.  We cannot learn about Gethsemane through personal experience.  Gethsemane and Calvary represent something totally unique–they are the gateway into life for us.

Gethsemane is where Jesus WON the Battle of the Ages as the “Son of Man”–He defeated Satan and sin when He, as a son of man, accepted the cup that the Heavenly Father had for Him to bear.  From there, His “man-mind” was wrapped around the task at hand and He calmly went forward, ready to accomplish the final blow on sin–victory through and over death–so that we might have life, eternally.
