This quote was interesting to me today–
Beware of surrender that is motivated by personal benefits that may result. For example, “I’m going to give myself to God because I want to be delivered from sin, because I want to be made holy. Being delivered from sin and being made holy are the result of being right with God, but surrender resulting from this kind of thinking is certainly not the true nature of Christianity.”
WHAT???? I thought that was what surrender was all about. Turns out–if we’re looking for some payback, deliverance, personal gain, a feeling of betterment, than the focus is still on us and what WE can gain. It’s not about us–it’s about Jesus. Just hanging out with him, trusting Him in all things for our families, ourselves, our salvation and even in our leisure time. Relax in His ‘easy chair’ all day long–that’s true surrender.
